Board Features and Construction

Core

Polypropylene (PP)

1.9lb beaded PP is the industry standard for high performance bodyboards. It is a excellent core for all conditions depending on the other elements within the board construction like stringer, mesh, etc.

Polyethylene (PE)

2.2lb expanded ethofoam PE has been used in the industry since the beginning and is the choice for a more "Flexy" feel. Some cold water riders prefer this core. Usually used on lower end boards. Currently NOT an option on Ronin boards

Skins

8lb Polyethylene - The industry standard for all deck and rail skins and the only kind we use.

Surlyn - The industry standard in high performance bottom slick

HDPE bottom slick - Stiffer and more brittle than surlyn and usually used on lower end boards. Currently not and option on customs orders.

Stringers and Mesh

Stringers

Stringers add stiffness and life to a board. They also add recoil or pop which also adds performance.

The standard stringers in Ronin boards are 3/4" diameter filament wound epoxy tube.

I have been experimenting with other stringer diameters. 1/2" and 3/8" are now an option in hollow or solid filament wound epoxy tube or carbon fiber. Carbon fiber stringers are 2 to 3 times as stiff and are 3 times the cost of standard filament wound epoxy tube stringers so, if your willing to pay for carbon fiber, I am willing to install them.

MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR STRINGER IS BEFORE DRILLING A LEASH PLUG!

Configurations of stringers on boards come in a few different options depending on your riding style and the wave you ride.
Single stringer - Standard radial flex around a single stringer centered in the board.
Double, Triple or more parallel stringers - Spaced as requested on custom orders.
V and reverse V configuration - Two stringer set up in a "V" or reverse "V" shape.

Short-Long-Short (Trident) - 3 stringers in the shape of a trident for a stiff tail and more flex in the nose.

Long-Sort-Long - 3 stringers, long outside stringers and a short one in the middle.

Mesh

Plastic diamond shaped mesh is laminated between the bottom slick to the core and/or deck skin to the core for added stiffness, chatter dampening, recoil and durability. Mesh Works best in expansion, not compression. Prone boards have many benefits from slick mesh. Deck mesh has more of an effect on DK boards than prone boards.

Tails

Square - Fast and loose. Not the best for control but that's the fun part!

Clipped Crescent - Industry standard on 99% of all boards built.

Full Crescent - Tip of tail to tip of tail radius cut. Better hold than a clipped crescent tail.

Tri-Crescent - Two smaller radius cuts on the outside and one larger on the inside of the tail.

V-Tail - Similar feel to a full crescent but in a "V" cut tip to tip of tail.

Clipped V-Tail - V tail with clipped corners similar to a clipped crescent but with a V instead of a radius cut.

Bat - Squashed, rounded or Delta bat, V-bat tail. A few different styles out there.

Gull Wing - Old school classic, similar to the bat tail but more laid back into the board.

Scalloped - A Ronin original tail. 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 evenly cut radius cut across a full crescent radius cut that offers the best hold of any tail offered. The points of the scallops usually line up with bottom channels for one of a kind performance and control.

Bottom Channels and Concave

Flat - Fast and loose. Not the best for control but that's the fun part!

Standard Channels - Industry standard on 99% of all boards built. 2" wide entry and 3 1/2" exist out the tail. 12" long.
Narrow Channels - Similar to standard channels. 1" at entry and 2" wide at exit out of tail. 14" long

Reverse Channels - Wide entry to narrow exit out the tail. Creates a lifting effect as water is funneled out the tail creating more speed.

Single Concave - Fast with better hold than standard channels. Rail to rail concave mid point of board to exit of tail.

Double Concave - Same rail to rail concave as the single concave with a center rib creating more hold and control.

Single to Double concave - Rail to rail in the front that fades to double concave out the tail.

Tri-Channel - 2 ribs creating 3 channels creating more hold and control. Dimensions per custom order.

Quad Channel - 3 ribs creating 4 channels creating more hold and control. Dimensions per custom order.

3 to 6 Channel - A Ronin original channel system. 3 equal wide channels that fade into 6 out the tail. Great hold and very fast due to the excellent water channeling. Dimensions per custom order.

Multi Channel - I am always looking for new ideas when it comes to channels. I have done up to 6 on a board. If you have an idea you want to explore on your next custom order lets work out the details.
