Time Lapse video of the nose cutting process on my custom made swinging band saw. Take a ride on the saw as cuts are being made. I have hand shaped these cuts in the past but it is very time consuming and the shape can very slightly from board to board. I have also seen other shapers use router/shaper tables with massive custom made shaper bits. The problem with the shaper bit method is that it does not cut far enough into the board and it tends to tear out PP beads as the cut is made and you still need to do a lot of clean up sanding after the cut. There is no more accurate and efficient way to shape the nose cut than a swinging band saw. That was then, this is now! #roninbodyboards #letthefoamfly #customtoolsforcustomboards

Time lapse video of the stepped deck, deck bulb and center deck mesh processes. Routing the stepped deck contours is a different process than the stand deck contours I do. Stepped deck contours are thicker in center than standard boards. This means you can have more volume in the center part of the board without have a thicker rail. The first step is to router 1/8" down the outside edge of the deck, then adjust the depth of the router and then cut down 3/16-1/4" in the main part of the contour. After some clean up with surform plane and sanding, deck bulbs are added to the nose and center deck mesh cut. It's ready for deck skin lamination. #roninbodyboards #letthefoamfly

But, there is no more efficient and accurate way to cut a chine depending on the board thickness and rail ratio than one adjustable cutter that can do any board thickness and ratio. For those who missed the Boog Chat last night, I will be making some changes to the cost of custom boards going forward. The days of getting a full custom board for the same price or cheaper than a stock cookie cutter board are over. I need to make this change to sustain my businesses going forward. I also will not be offering standard channels any longer. I want to build high end high performance boards only. 5 years ago today I started Ronin Bodyboards and the dream of making peoples custom boards come true began and nothing has really changed to this day. I have this phrase that has stuck in my head since day one and before...."Hot Rods, not Honda's" Before people get defensive, let me explain. Honda's are great cars, I drive a Toyota Tacoma. But most people who are looking to buy a car walk into a dealership looking for a car that their friend or neighbor has and buy what is available on the lot at the time. These cookie cutter cars are built in a large factory by automated machines for the masses, not the individual buying the car. On the flip side of that, there are Custom Hot Rod shops out there that will build a one of a kind dream vehicle that will drive, look and perform like nothing else on the road. This type of car is hand built by a craftsman who knows and loves their trade from the wheels up and works with the customer directly to make their dream car come true. So, when I started Ronin I wanted to have that hot rod shop kind of feel for the customer who wants something that is not like any thing that they can "find on the lot". Ronin bodyboards are built for the individual not the masses "Hot Rods, not Honda's". Thanks for all the love, likes, comments and support over the past 5 years. So here is the idea behind the stringer placement. Dom and I were chatting about how to keep the single stringer radial flex in his boards but make it stiffer. Most double stringer boards have two stringers that are about 10-12" apart and that puts the stringers close to under your elbows and drastically changes how the board flexes. The radial flex around the centerline is lost. So why not put two stringers close together at the center line of the board? And that's what I did for this one and maybe more in the future. It's a simple but effective way to add stiffness but still keep that tradition center line board flex.
